Re: Lost my key
The only easy way I can think of would be run a wire from the battery + to the accessory terminal + , put a 15 amp fuse in the acc terminal #1, pull the headlight fuse so as to not too bad overload the wiring. If it burns anything up you didn't hear it from me.

One of the lock cylinders should have the three digit code you can take to a Locksmith to cut you a new key.

Hey Okie, you should do what I did.
In a hidden spot that only I know, I stuck a spare
key in a blob of silicone seal.
If I should ever lose the key, just cut the silicone\
and retrieve the key.
Good luck getting started again.

Re: Lost my key
There is another option that sometimes works. If the ignition switch is well worn (which, after 27 years, it should be...), any double-sided key of a sufficiently similar blank that it will fit in the ignition MAY, possibly be used to start it.
The technique is to stick the key in there and put slight clockwise pressure on it, while jiggling it & moving it up & down a little at the same time. It can take awhile, but you may get lucky, and it will rotate enough to turn the ignition on. From that point on, you're golden...at least until you take the key out again, whereupon you have to start the process over the next time you need to start it.
I've had a great deal of luck with this process over the years. I'm certainly no locksmith, but it often works, especially on old, worn locks.
You'll still need to see a locksmith about getting a proper key cut, though. Not many carry the blanks for these bikes, so you may need to call several to see which one carries the correct blank. Even without the code, some locksmiths can cut a working key.
Hope that helps - it's hard when you're away from home!!

Re: Lost my key
I don't know if this will help but here goes; I broke my key off in the ignition (94 1500). I called several locksmiths only one guy came out. He spent an one hour and quit. In the 1500's ignition, the wafers are very tight. I had to purchase a used ignition which, requires removing the fairing. As part of the security, the ignition is bolted in with one way heads. So, a hammer and cold chisel got the bolts to loosen after that it was easy. The whole thing was time consuming but never terribly difficult. Check my posts you'll see the whole sordid story! If I can answer more questions just let me know.
Best of luck,

Re: Lost my key
Just got back from my trip to Charlotte NC to see the Coca Cola 600............I was able to find a local locksmith that used my fuel door lock to make another key, I took the lock to him and he had a key made in minutes.............however the key didn't work in the ignition lock so he came to the bike and quickly made the necessary adjustments to get the ignition key working like a champ..........you need to find someone who is familiar with motorcycles.............I tried a number of locksmiths that wouldn't even attempt to work on the lock. He did leave me with a spare key so hopefully I can limit this to a "once in a lifetime" experience. Thanks to everyone for all your help and suggestions and support.............

Re: Lost my key
Our local Ace Hardware has blanks that fit Goldwings and I had 2 made for less than $5 apiece. They both work in all locks. One is hidden in the bike and one is put up in the house.
I would hate to loose my pretty 50th Anniversary original key, but if I do, I have spares. Dave
