Air Shocks

Post by mr.toad »

Hi all. I have a 1988 GL1500 that I'm trying to get air shocks for. The factory left shock blew and left an oily mess all over. Currently I'm using a previously owned left shock from eBay. The right shock still holds air and isn't leaking oil, but who knows for how long. I'd like to replace both with newer air shocks. Honda said the Progressive number is 416-1633GLA. Problem is, they haven't been made for two years. Every place I've looked, I've run into a brick wall. Help!!! I really don't want the 412's, I have to remove the saddle bags to adjust. Any suggestions?

I know that the ones built for the Goldwing are not available anymore. They were 13.42in long. However, Amazon has some that are 14in and some that are 13in. If you really want 416's, this may be the only option to get new 416 shocks.

Thanks for the reply oldmopars. I found that model on eBay for an
1100 Goldwing. I'll have to check and see if I can use them on my 1500.

I can tell you for sure if they fit a 1200, they fit a 1500. I have 1500 coil shocks on my 1200 right now. They fit, but I need to do something else, they are too stiff. I think, but not 100% sure that the 1100 is the same as the 1200. Length is the only thing.

Thanks again. I guess I need to do a little research, maybe my local Honda dealer.
