Best battery for 2000 1500SE?

Post by moreira72 »

My wing is due for a new battery soon, and I'm trying to decide between a MotoBatt MBTX24U or a Yuasa YTX24HL-BS. or is there another battery that's better. Thanks

A Yuasa battery is a great one. Here is the one I got a few months ago. It is a Motocross AGM battery made by Yuasa for the specialty market. I had one just like it before and it lasted 7 years. Has a 1 year warranty also.

I am a Odyssey PC 680 fan. Mine has been in the bike for over 8 years now and still starts the bike like the day I put it in. I have even killed it twice by leaving the ignition switch on in the ACC position by mistake. Charged it back up and it is still going strong. I had one in a Suzuki that was ridden a few times a year. Started the bike every time and I never had it on a battery tender. That one was 10 years old when I sold the bike.

Either battery will serve you well. My 2000 SE had a Yuasa of unknown age in it when I first got the bike, and it ran perfectly for another six years before it started to show its age.

I replaced it with a MotoBatt 2 1/2 years ago, and it's still running like brand new.

all 1500s benefit the best from the AGM batteries, which hold up their terminal voltage much better than Wet Cells...

the AGMs will give you instant click / varoom performance starts.

I had a 98 Wing with a Yuasa and it worked great, but sold that bike before it needed a new battery. I do like the extra terminals on the Motobatt battery though, and it seems like a quality battery. Tough choice to make. I may go with the Motobatt.

Another Odyssey PC 680 fan here. Put first one in trike (GL1500SE) in 2004, replaced it in 2015, put the 2004 Odyssey PC 680 in my 1985 GL1200A and it's still doing a fine job.

How does the PC680 battery fit? The specs state that the battery is shorter in length and height than original battery.

Fits "very well". It's not a lot shorter, but gives room to secure cables. I am careful about the bolts, I make sure whatever bolts I use will thread down all the way by fingers first without cable end, then I attach cables. It is thinner but not by a lot. I just turn the outer retainer bracket around and added a piece of rubber like pad to it.

So I decided to go with the Yuasa Battery. Bought it from Cyclemax.com and should arrive tomorrow. I know Amazon is cheaper, but not sure if its the same model battery. Cyclemax.com claims that it comes fully charged, factory activated, and has 350 CCA. Here is a link to battery I bought.

it is ready to start the bike, and go, the minutes you tighten up all of the screws and put the panels back in place.

I much prefer to give Gary and Betty my money, over saving a few sheckles somewhere else.

I keep a CART loaded with my Wish List, and when it reaches the magic number, I order.

i agree with you on cyclemax. i have placed over a dozen orders from cyclemax for my 99 Valkyrie, 98 Wing, and now my 2000 Wing. The battery came in yesterday, i bench tested it, and out of the box and it was 12.76 volts! That's just about fully charged. I'm gonna install it this week along with an Electrical connection power plate. thanks

Yeah, this wish stuff sure it handy. I do the same with Amazon, but there I can break it down into categories :)
