Went through the whole troubleshooting menu for my cruise tonight after thinking I had it last night with the rear brake switch. At least my set light would now come on. Finally chased it to vacuum going into the control valve but not coming back out. Vacuum applied to the diaphragm would raise the idle up easily.
Pulled valve off from left of the fuel tank and opened her up. 4 o-rings, watch for them when taking this apart. 1 on top for incoming vacuum, 3 on bottom of solenoids for outgoing to diaphragm. Put power to them one at a time and only 2 clicked. After hitting the third one several times with 12VDC it broke free and was passing air.
Put it all back together and test ride, works well now. These can be checked on the bike without taking them apart in hindsight but I wanted to see what I was dealing with. I have pics if anyone wants to see them for reference.

I'd like to see them. You know what they say about pictures and words. I'm not having that problem - yet - but I do have a 97 1500 and it seems like just a matter of time....

Always learning, still stupid though
