Radio Volume up-down
first I want to say,I'm Sorry, I'm sure this had been discussed I just can't seem to find it anywhere. The problem I am having involves the radio volume, it goes up and down on it's own
it's like it goes into the mute mode while just riding down the road or even just sitting still sometimes, then just as unexpected it will kick out of it and go back to normal. it doesn't show it is muted on the LCD but if it's doing it I can hit the mute button and can't detect any change in volume. when it is working like it should I can hit the mute button, it will show it's in mute and the volume will go down like it should. I should also note this can last for days when it kicks out before it goes back to normal, or it might be the next time I crank the bike.
I am going to have my bike down for other repairs and upgrades starting this Thursday so it would be nice if I had some direction to look
any thoughts on this would be appreciated

Re: Radio Volume up-down
Radio volume change could be affected by the cb squelch even if the cb volume is all the way down.Turn the cb off.

Thanks, that was the first thing I checked as I had that happen once before.

Re: Radio Volume up-down
So I gather that's not the problem?
There's other things too that mute the volume. There inside the radio tho.
The first thing I'll guess at is the cassette "in" switch.I found a bypass for that in the radio.Soldering a jumper to bypass it.

Re: Radio Volume up-down
I may be a bit off base suggesting this since you have had you Wing for a number of years and are very familiar with it. But is it possible that the Intercom Volume Mute Knob (the center knob on the control panel) got turned counter clockwise and is causing the radio to mute when the intercom microphone picks up audio input?

Re: Radio Volume up-down
If it will help, you can read through all this stuff about muting the radio from the cassette.

Hmm you may be on to something there, I never even thought about that but I have a cassette adapter for my MP3 player. and when I'm using that it NEVER drops the volumevirgilmobile wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2019 9:13 pmIf it will help, you can read through all this stuff about muting the radio from the cassette.

I'm going to look at that link and since I will have the radio out doing the repairs/upgrades I will go into it, I wanted an excuse to go in and add the port anyway so I could get rid of the adapter cassette
Thanks

Re: Radio Volume up-down
well crud, I may be back to square one here. I just went out and decided to just mess with the radio to see about the cassette muting. well when I hit the button for cassette it does mute and unmute like it should, so my guess is the ground may be OK. also when this happens I don't lose my sound it just mutes the volume down like the mute button on the handlebars does when you hit it.
is it possible that the ground for the cassette can make it only lower the volume and not completely mute it out.
I don't have any of the intercom wiring connected and have never used it so I'm not sure if that's part of or related to the issue

Not crud yet.
You say it's intermittent but never happens when using the cassette adaptor. This is a good indication that the cassette mute switch is suspect.

Re: Radio Volume up-down
And yes.The cassette mute switch may be intermittent. Its suppose to pull the mute line to ground.Ungroundedtheres only about 3 volts on that line. Its possible that if the mute switch doesn't completely ground it there may be a bit of voltage on that wire making a partial mute.Just speculating tho.
I'd still bypass it with a jumper wire.

Re: Radio Volume up-down
I planned on going with it anyway as I'm going to go ahead and do the aux plug as well. now I feel foolish as I just went back out to double check my CB and I can't believe it but it was on, it was on ch 1 with squelch all the way down. I have a pouch cover that I bought to replace the original cover and it has pockets on top as well as one that hangs over the CB. I check it from time to time to insure it's off and I called myself looking at it when this all started months ago and I was sure it was off then. I guess something pushed it hard enough to turn it on again
I think when I get in there I'm going to disconnect the power for the CB altogether as I never use it.

Re: Radio Volume up-down
OK I replaced my LCD screen so now I can see it again, (YEAH) and I went in and grounded the cassette switch per the info listed
there is still a issue, yesterday after work I started the bike and the radio was showing it was muted on the LCD screen but the button was out and the cassette button was not pushed, I tried hitting the mute button and few times and switching it back and forth from radio to cassette and nothing changed. So off I went I got about 100 yards and presto it unmuted and so far hasn't done it again but I have only ridden from work to home and back this morning. I'm pretty sure this is what it's been doing all along but with the old LCD screen being blacked out I couldn't see the mute indicator was on
so I guess I still have a issue inside the radio or maybe in the mute button on the handlebars. I will say when it is in normal mode the mute button works without fail and it will switch from radio to cassette every time like it should
