MP3 and SATNAV audio detector

Post by agedbikeman »

This is my latest farkle
My other bike a canam spyder has an MP3 in the trunk and a built audio detector so that when your satnav(not oem) speaks it mutes the radio during the announcement, so I thought why cant my GL1500 have this aswell, so I bought on ebay an mp3 naked module and an audio detector module never intended for what I wanted it for.
I first did the mod on the wing's radio to accept an aux input but not the mod where you have to run a cassette but the one with a manual switch between radio and aux.

The board on the right is the audio detector, the board in the middle is a DPDT signal relay and on the left is a 5v regulator to power the satnav

So now when I'm playing radio or mp3 during a satnav announcement the music mutes and returns 4 seconds after the announcement, if I dont want any music at all just satnav audio I switchto mp3 and then power off the mp3.
Anyone wants the schematic of how it all fits together, I'll happily email it to you.

Yes it works very well, I can even adjust the time lag between the end of the announcement and the return of the music, it's every bit as good as the oem one on my Spyder

This is something that could be used with any input!

If you have a parts list that you used, that would be great.

Yes I use 2 inputs satnav and mp3, but you must first do the mod to the radio, not the one where you have to put a cassette in the player but the one with the switch added, I got it from this website.

P.M .me your email address and I will send you the schematic for the Audio Detector module, the ebay part reference for the switch module and if needed the radio mod that I used.
I tried to post it here but it's in the wrong format as I used C.A.D.

Not many people will be able to open a .CAD file, you might want to open it on your screen then use a screen capture, then you can post the resulting .JPGs

I built something similar, but I designed it from scratch rather than around modules (life is so much easier today with these modules pre-designed and built for you!). I designed and breadboarded it 11 years ago, but never actually built one. The impetus for this was an intercom VOX mute, that would let you have the two microphones on the intercom not be open and live, and only open when you hit a certain noise threshold. Kind of like mic-mutes, except automatic, with no button to push.

My prototype worked, but then my wife got her own bike, so I scrapped the idea.

Much more complicated than my system, I always keep things simple. I disconnected the intercom kit on my wing as for years I've had bluetooth ones in our helmets.

All hail to the modules from china, can't even buy the components for the price of the modules

Done it, played around and managed to post schematic here, not very clear but readable, anyone want a clearer one P.M. me your email address and I can send it as a word attachment or a photo.

Enjoy
