How to remove dog bone fuse

Post by 1993Hondaw/sidecar »

Hello first time on Chat!
My bike w/sidecar stopped after backfires and deceleration of speed. Changed the battery
worked for 10 min. and shut down again. Thinking dog bone fuse
I am trying to remove the dog bone fuse by the battery without success.
Any suggestions as I don't want to break the cover.
Also can't figure out how to add a classified w/pictures. Any help would be appreciated
Appreciatively

I believe you grab it with your fingers in the middle of the cover, pinch the sides and pull off. I believe.

You could install a inline fuse that you would pig tail to the screws that the dog bone fuse is screwed into. But a fuse is still a fuse.

just want to add, if the dog bone fuse is blown the bike wouldn't have started with the new battery. might need to add more details about what happened and is happening now
IE. it turns over but won't start, or it won't do anything but click, or no power to anything when key is on. the more info you give the better to move you in the right direction.

Have you tested the alternator output voltage? It sounds like the brushes are stuck in the alternator.

A friend is looking at alternator soon.
He did find out that the dog bone fuse had been removed/changed but without a fuse.
If I am explaining it correctly

That dogbone fuse is 30 Amps, not 50. ☝️ Be careful, and good luck with your project.

Main dogbone on a GL1500 is actually rated 55 amps.... A 50 amp replacement blade or cartridge fuse would be fine.
