I was working on installing rear speakers on my new 99 GL1500 Aspy and I'm at the part where you're supposed to take off the reverse handle and then the left shield piece behind it so I can get to the audio cables. I took out the allen bolt holding the handle in place, leaving the phillips screw alone, per all the instructions (including this site) and even one of the posters here mentions that you might have a hard time separating piece 2 from piece 3... I'm not just having a hard time, it's literally become near impossible. I've sprayed it with WD40, given it a couple of thwacks to try and loosen the lever but it simply won't budge. At this point, it's removed piece 2 from the proper fitting and the only way to get IT back on is to remove the bloody handle. I can see where they're supposed to separate but they simply aren't. And I can't use any of the normal prying techniques because the plastic piece is still in between them and I don't want to crack/break it.
Any advice? Help?????
God bless,
~Mark

Re: EMERGENCY: Reverse lever stuck!!!!! NEED HELP!!!
Update:
I basically took apart the lever (I know you're not supposed to, but I didn't have a choice) and I got the cover off. Now I can work on the audio I wanted to work on to begin with but I still need help with this damn reverse lever. It's still VERY stuck together (did someone who previously owned this use freaking grip glue to hold it on?) and now I have to get the brass part that's attached to the cables back onto the shaft it wasn't supposed to come off of. HELP!!!!

Re: EMERGENCY: Reverse lever stuck!!!!!
On my 99 the first time I removed the lever it was stuck between parts 2 and 3. I took a screwdriver and tapped it between them to get it apart. Been easier since.

Yup, me too. They were jammed together tight, and only some percussive maintenance got them apart. Once I did get them apart, I did a little bit of filing to reduce the tolerances slightly, and never had a problem since.RockportDave wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 2:49 pm On my 99 the first time I removed the lever it was stuck between parts 2 and 3.
