Turn Key, nothing on screen & no clicks

Post by Sidehack »

Have a 1992 GLSE with 135K on it. Been sitting for a while. Battery on charger reading 12.9. Turn the key and no LCD or any lights. CHecked all the fuses, relays per manual, main A & B. Checked the Solenoids, all good. Swapped another battery reading 13.2 and same issue. No screen display or status lights and no clicks anywhere. Ohm'd the kill switch and ok per manual. What am I missing. Thanks in advance

To the right of battery is a 55A "dog bone fuse" check for voltage on both ends. While in the neighborhood check the 30A fuse for voltage in a holder attached to starter relay A to the right of the dog bone fuse. Both those fuses are hot at all times. If voltage present on the dog bone go to fuse box on left rear and probe for voltage on all, a couple/few circuits should always be hot.

ct1500, thanks for reply. Yes there if voltage within .5 volts on all the fuses, 55a dogbone, and at the bottom of the terminal for that fuse as well as a new A solenoid as well as at the B solenoid in. 30 A is good too,m ohm'd to make sure but shows power when I probe attached. All the fuses are good but only ohm'd them. Need to go back and see which ones are hot. Played with the relays replacing some with new ones I have. I'm going to work the key and lube as maybe the contacts have dried? If the Kill is bad, would you get power to the screen? Or wonder if the new solenoid I put in might be bad.

this is cheap, and works great, have used it for decades

Ohmmeters are not what you should use for fuses, turn the key on, test for Voltage
do the headlights come on when you turn the key? if so, the right hand OFF/ON/OFF switch is good.

Do a systematic check, from source towards the loads checking for loss of power.

Lights front or back do not come on like nothing is connected but all the power seems to be at the fuse box 12.+ volts. Fuses are out of holder, I know that much and how to use the multimeter, but thanks. I use similar cleaner but for plastics

Turn the key back to the lock (park) position and see if the taillights come on. Remove tail/main relay, one relay pin should be hot with key off and one other should be hot with key on. If you don't get the hot with key on then somewhere between the 30A fuse of relay A and fuse box has an open circuit which includes ignition switch. Wire connector for ignition switch is above left side fan, continuity and voltage checks can be made there next.
