What did I fry

Post by mebrunk »

So first off let me say I've already beaten myself up over this incredibly stupid move so please go easy on me. My problem is I did some welding on the subframe of my 93 Gl1500 and the battery was still connected, :o OOPS!. now no crank issues and if I jump starter relay it cranks but of course won't start. could someone give me a list of what all I probably fryed in the electronics. Thank you in advance for all help and comments.

What were you welding and where was the ground clamp? For the no-crank I would probably be looking at the diode pack, right side of trunk below lights.

I was welding the tabs that secure the front part of tbe trunk.the clamp was on the rear tab for the trunk with all the paint sanded off. I had checked all the fuses and relays and the diode pack and then started thinking what else i had removed because after i tried welding the first side i realixed i was going to have to get the under side of tab welded so i removed the whole subframe. Well i put the bank sensor on upside down on reassembly so that was the whole problem. Live and learn starts right up and runs great now. Thanks for the reply though much appreciated

I had to weld the same pieces on my 1500, there was nothing holding the front of the trunk down.

Not having a welder, it sure looked funny going town the road to the friendly neighborhood rent-all without trunk and bags   - the guy there has a welder and he fixed me right up. He did the welding with the sub-frame in place.

Can I ask, why did it need welding, was it rusted or cracked or broken?

Thanks

On mine the front trunk mounting tabs had completely broken off the sub-frame.
