Cruise control

Post by Shooter560 »

My 93 cruise stopped working, it cruise on lights up, also the cruise set lights up, but something isn’t right as it won’t hold any speed

I’ve read and watched no end of fault posts but most seem to be many years old with comments that as posters to email someone rather than posting the info

Can someone please help, suggest things to look at etc as it’s doing my head in

Cheers in advance

Re: Cruise control

If "SET" comes on then most likely a vacuum problem.

If you have a vacuum gauge I'd pull the vacuum line to the throttle actuator (located below the reverse lever on the left side) and connect the vacuum line for the actuator to your gauge. You'll need a couple feet of hose. Drive down the road, set the cruise, then see if it can pull a vacuum on the gauge.

If it does, the actuator is suspect. If you have a vacuum brake bleeder you can connect it to the actuator, and with engine idling try to pull a small vacuum on the actuator, if it is good the engine should rev up, be ready for that. If you can't pull a vacuum on the actuator most likely a pinhole in the diaphragm, and will have to be replaced.

Have you recently done any other work on the bike? One member here had cruise control doing the exact same thing as yours, turned out when he had done some other work on the bike he had inadvertently pinched a vacuum line for the cruise system when reassembling things. Once the vacuum line was unpinched, cruise operation returned to normal.
