Audio only in the right headset ....

Post by in2it »

I have a 2 Arai helmet with J&M Elite headset .... my problem is I only have audio out of the right side in the helmet ... this also happens on the passenger plugin ... and happens to both helmets ... I have stereo when the speakers are switch on and they sound good without hissing or a static sound.. after looking at the wiring diagram the switch to turn the headset on and off is inside the radio/cassette unit ... there's a few slip on connectors between the headset to the radio/cassette ... My question is has anyone experience this and or is there a easy fix before sending off the unit to be repaired .. or is there a replacement upgrade lurking somewhere to replace the radio/cassette player that still have all of the functions as in, intercom, CB, LCD screen, headset, speakers and so on... any advice would be helpful

When I have had similar problems it has been the cords between the bike and the headset.

If you need to have the radio itself looked at I recommend Sierra Electronics: https://www.sierra-mc.com/radioservice.asp

Look closely at all the pins. Did you get one of these as well: https://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500 ... 129/348234

Plug your headset into a friend's bike to see if it is working correctly and plug theirs into your bike to narrow down the problem. You might remove the left pocket and check the red connector in the headset wiring. The pigtail is about 8 inches long to the main harness.

When the problem is common to both the rider and passenger like this, I'd look at the Radio connectors. That is a common point where a broken wire or a pin in the connector not making contact can prevent the signal getting through to both headsets. The external speakers and the headset speakers are two different circuits so one system operate fine and the other can be malfunctioning. If it was just the rider or just the passenger, I'd look at the separate headset cords or connectors.

Well... I ran continuity from the Radio/Cassette to the red connector in the left fairing pocket... and found my problem... the big slip-in connection mounted inside the the left pocket is bad... green copper pins... along with broken connector with loose wires that suppose to be in the slip in connector... ugh ... so I guess I need a wiring harness ... Ohhhh... another kicker... the fader the PO installed... all the wires fell off the knob... oh well I got that ordered

I ran continuity on cord and it check out... I discovered the problem... Im looking for a wiring harness to replace a broken connector and green copper pins... if you know of a site or form that has stock numbers on the different parts of harness... I would be thankful

These guys supposedly carry replacement connectors: http://cycleterminal.com/

You could also use a something like a Posi-Connect for the offending cable(s).
