2000 SE Driving light Upgrede.

Post by Crusty1 »

I recently acquired a 2000 GL1500SE. Found the Driving light bulbs (Cornering lights on 97 and earlier and non SE) were burnt out. I have upgrade with these LEDs from Cyclemax.

https://www.cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/50 ... /83/195290.

As pointed out in other threads this is a double element bulb and only one element is used. Has anyone soldered a short across the bulb contacts to turn on both elements? I'm thinking these LED bulbs even with both elements active would draw less than the stock halogen.

Probably but, I modified my lights. I took the sockets out of the plastic housings and replaced them with trailer light sockets with the two wire base. I then hooked up the low (tail light) intensity to the tail light system and the high intensity to the original cornering lights so I now have light all the time and when I turn on the signals I have highter intensity for turns.

Thank you, Your mod will accomplish the same thing. Sounds like you still have the stock cornering light operation and bulb??

Yes, when I turn the ignition on the low intensity LEDs light up and stay on all the time but, when I turn on the turn signal it lights up the high intensity LEDs which gives a lot more light for turning at night. They are not as bright as driving lights though. But, it does give a little more light to the front and also gives me a larger appearance to oncoming traffic. Works for me.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn’t catch that you were able to get independent function from the 2 elements. Not what I was thinking to do with mine as it does not have the cornering relays. I am also thinking the lenses are more focused than the cornering lenses. Have you had relay issues due to current draw?
