Does this have radio illumination?

Post by Crusty1 »

Have a 1990 GL1500 trike in the shop for repairs. The radio is working fine but i do not see any illumination lighting on the buttons. Does the 1990 have this feature? Maybe all of the bulbs are burned out (not likely but possible). My 2000 GL1500SE has radio lighting. Radio looks a little different than the 1990.

My 88 had back lit buttons on the radio. They were a little on the dim side. My guess is they are burned out. I think there is an article on converting the bulbs to LED's that are nice and bright in the "How To Articles" section.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure since none of the lights are working. Guess they don’t last 30 years.

Funny thing. I was able ton install some white LEDs. It now has lighted buttons. The labels for the knobs not so much. The faceplate decal was so faded and dark almost no light would pass even supplying it directly in the slot with the faceplate removed from the radio.

Thanks for the reply. No amount of LED Light will fix the issue with this radio. The translucent face plate decal for the Main volume, Fader, Tone, Intercom volume has a blue filter under it. The filter and decal are so deteriorated by age and the sun they will not pass enough light to be seen even when I use a high intensity flashlight directly behind it. If I decide to upgrade the lighting on my 2000 wing this video looks to be the best option so far.
