I was thinking about this today and thought someone here could give me some advice.
Before I started tearing into my bike I had an odd symptom when the choke was on. A pretty loud sucking sound. It is only there with choke on. Bike starts easily with choke when cold, but I can hear a loud sucking sound. Idle is consistent. I can slowly walk the choke down until it is off over about 20 seconds bike idles fine, not jumping around, a bit low until it is fully warmed up. Seems to perform fine no flat spots or anything.
The sucking sound is odd to me, what should I be looking for when I get to the carbs?

If it were me, as long as it's running fine I wouldn't mess with it. These carbs are no fun to extract from the bike....

Crankcase ventilation tube that hooks into the air box in right front side? It will make a dieseling sound when unhooked. Hard to get to.

That sucking sound is normal on the 1500. The "choke" isn't the traditional choke that blocks intake airflow. It is an enrichener that sucks additional "fuel" into the carbs, causing the sucking sound.
