odometer not working

I purchased a 98 Goldwing SE. The odometer does not work, the speedometer and trip meter work fine. I recently replaced the front tires and everything in that area is fine. I was told that the speedometer/odometer gaging was completely replaced prior to me purchasing.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

I have a '91 and not a '98 so even though this works for me, I don't guarantee it'll work for you.
Your odometer working leads me to believe that the cable is hooked up correctly but the "speedo" needle isn't moving. It could be a lubrication issue but, , , on my beast I will see the "speedo" needle stay at 0 while on the road, , , EASY FIX;
I use a four finger "flick" and the speedo comes to life, , , , put your thumb along the nails of all four fingers (left hand for me works best) similar to making a fist, ,flex your fingers quickly as your hand is within an inch of the plastic dash at the speedometer needle. The "thwack" vibrates the needle to life for me. My needle "sticks" if I let it sit for a week or two, , , but daily riding there is no problem.

Bluthunder31 it's actually the odometer that doesn't work. The speedometer and tripmeter work great

I purchased a 98 Goldwing 1500 SE. The odometer does not work, the speedometer and trip meter work fine. I recently replaced the front tires and everything in that area is fine. I was told that the speedometer/odometer gaging was completely replaced prior to me purchasing.

There may have been a faulty speedometer in the cluster that they replaced. Sounds like the speedometer needs to be repaired or replaced. Did the prior owner tell you that everything worked after they replaced the speedometer/odometer gauging? Did they say why it was replaced? Did they monkey with the odometer to make the bikes actual mileage match the odometer that was installed? If so, they probably messed up the odometer.

If odometer and trip meter are Ok, then there is a problem with the odometer part itself, for they're all commandded by same gears.

I was told that the complete speedometer unit was replaced by the local Honda dealer. That was done just prior to selling. I plan on replacing the bulbs in the unit and will get a closer look at it then

Hi, did you find the problem? I do have a GL1500 1993, and the odometer stop at 59999.
As you say everthing else is working ok, speedmeter and partial millage counter. Just the odometer.
Any tale to tell? thank you. Atilio.
