Windshield Garnish Set

Post by kidvid66 »

Hello,
I have a 1990 gl1500 and I want to put on a 1996 windshield garnish with screens and they say I need a bracket to accomplish this task. Can anyone provide me with a part number or a place that I can buy this bracket? I have looked online have not seen nor found the right one or the bracket itself. HELP!!

I could be mistaken but I think this is the part your needing, part # 64135-MAM-00 at Partszilla under 97 SE in the windscreen option
I had a 88 and now a 97 and that is the only part that I know of that is different as far as how to mount the front garnish

Hello AJ1500
I look up the part number with a picture and I don't think that is the right item that I am looking for. it's a bracket that supposed to be made for the 1990 to put on a 1996 windshield garnish. The 1990s to 1995 had the two separate pieces the chrome piece with the black grills up under it where as a 1996 had one solid chrome piece with screens on the side. My chrome piece goes inside the black piece in two holes in this is supposed to the bracket that I'm looking for is supposed to attached to the headlight screws and stick out a little bit so that the new garnish will fit right on that. If you need pictures let me know I will take pictures and show you the best way I can.?

Hello kidvid66

The part that was listed for your windscreen garnish is the correct item.
It is called STAY, GARNISH SETTING. Part Number 64135-MAM-000. Price from MRCycles.com is $40.63.
As you know, the 1990 parts breakdown looks like this:

The 1996 and later parts break down looks like this:

Notice the difference? The part needed is item #15.

At least that is my understanding of it. I have never done the conversion and all the GL1500's I've owned (3) were already set up with the latest garnish.

I concur. My bike is a '92 Interstate and it has the large one piece garnish with that bracket #15 above the headlight. This was done by the PO, my Grandfather, idk when though. I would have taken pics if this was a few days ago, I just changed my windshield and had it apart. The chrome garnish has two slots in the bottom that fit to that bracket and two screws hold it in place on the uppermost outsides, if that makes sense.

Here is an excerpt from the DIY How-To article by WingAdmin on how to replace the headlight. It describes how the chrome piece attaches to that bracket and includes a picture.

13. Using a 10mm socket, remove the two bolts holding the top of the headlight. On later model GL1500's, these bolts also hold the bracket in place that fastens the bottom end of the windshield trim - pull this bracket away when you remove the bolts.
