Does anyone know what this dial is?

Post by Drop a gear »

Can anyone tell me what this knob is? I have a 1995 Gold wing Aspencade and this knob is located just aft of the ignition. I pulled the cover and there’s a large number of wires going to it. I looked through the owners manual in the Clymer manual and I can’t find anything online about it. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. Great amount of information here.

That knob is not original and will not be referenced in the Honda or Haynes service manuals or owner's manual.

Most likely it is a fader control switch for the speakers. Could also be for a variable intensity for the phaser/disrupter anti-zombie driver self defense weapon option but the music fade control seems more plausible.

BTW. we like pix. Show the rest of your bike and give us some details.

Thank you for your help. I will post pics after I dye the brownish seat and dash panels black. Going to replace speakers after that. New to wrenching on Hondas. Seems like a lot of work to do simple things like check oil level or adjust windshield height.

Wait until you change the air filter or rear brakes. And don't even think about an air filter on the GL1800!

It is an added fader control for added rear speakers.

Thanks. Good to know. Was wondering why there some many wires running under the cover but I couldn’t find them on other ‘95 GWs. Speakers need to be replaced...2 are shot and the other 2 are crap. Was looking for a spot to put a voltmeter display. This seems like a good location.

Then you're going to want to get at least one JIS screwdriver. There are NO Phillips screws on your bike, they are Japan Industrial Standard. A Phillips will "customize" your screw heads.

Prices start about $15 on Scamazon.

While you're at it, you also want some extra 10mm sockets. You can be working in a NASA "clean room." but when you put down your one-and-only 10mm socket, you can spend hours trying to find it again. This is one of the laws of physics.
