Hi - Folks !! - Saw this vid on youtube so passing it on too fellow wingers out there - Who are scared to put there bike on the centre stand or are having trouble doing so !! . I found it very informative and much more in depth too !! well worth a look !!
Motorcycle: 1999 GL1500 50th Anniversary SE 1989 GL1500 FOR SALE A pack of Super Cubs Z50A (pre-headlight) Formerly (in order): Honda Super Cub (bought 1968, sold ?) Kawasaki Coyote (early 1970s) Honda 350 (mid 1970s) Kawasaki KZ900-PS (1977) Honda Super Cubs (various years) Kawasaki KZ1000C (1978) Kawasaki KZ1000P (various years, 1980 - 2005) Honda 360 (1983) BMW R1150RT-P (2001) BMW R1200RT-P (various years 2007 - 2018, NEVER AGAIN)
I had literally never realized that this was a problem for anyone. But then, I've been putting bikes on centerstands since my first Super Cub, so I guess I just adjusted for weight changes over the years.
I will also say that the GL1500 is easier to stand than was the BMW R1200RTP that I recently got away from -- and the BMW was significantly lighter. The geometry of the lever (that you put your foot onto) is a LOT better on the Wing. It's not even a matter of rider weight -- you are pulling directly away from the lifting handle/chicken bar.
When intending to park for more than a day or two, I prefer to stand it rather than lean it.
With the gold wing being a flat six engine - Your always better putting it on the centre stand !! - I have heard story's of them being left running while there on the side stand and blowing up !! due to no oil on one side of the engine there !! .
