Carb hose T joint

Post by glk17l »

I am putting the carbs back on my 1500, and I was wondering if someone can tell me about the T joint for the Air Vent tubes. I noticed that the joint has an open side ( the square side is open) and you can see into the T joint. Is this normal, and if so, what is the purpose, or is it broke? I checked my parts manual, and couldn't see any detail. I want to verify this before I install the carbs.

Yes this is the way it should be... unless you have a California emission bike.
Does not make too much sense to me but...?
If someone has a rational explanation for it, I would love to hear about it!

Cheers.

Thank you for that info. I noticed it when I removed the carbs, and flipped it over on the bench, and gas poured out of it. I thought it might be a problem with it. It seems that if the bike goes down it will pour out gas onto the hot engine. If that's the way they designed it, it should be OK, I hope.

If that's a vent, there may have been a bit of filter material in there. Just a guess.

It is a vent from both carbs. No foam filter.

By the way, the end of that vent tube goes to the underside of the bike, where the carb gas drain tube is. Just curious why it needs two openings, one up by the carbs and the other end under the bike. There has to be a reason for Honda's design. At this point as long as it works, that's fine with me.
