Right Rear Air Shock-- Does it have a Spring

Post by Crusty1 »

2000 GL1500 SE. I have removed the rear shocks to replace the upper bushings. I have the air shock mounted in a vice and it just moves up an down freely like an air piston. I will pump air out of the hose attachment and if I close off that port the shock will resist being compressed. Is this thing just an air bladder or is the spring broken? Does it have a coil spring under the can?

Thanks in advance for help.
Chuck

It has no spring. Yes, it is just an air bladder.

Thanks Mike, I think mine is ok. Holds air and no oil leaks. The book shows a reseal procedure and oil change. Have you had any experience with that?

No, I have not had to reseal or add any oil to mine. It has been trouble free except for replacing the rubber boot a couple of times.
