Did a lot of neglected maintenance on my new to me 98SE. Two of those things were timing belts and spark plugs. I’m now getting backfires out of the left exhaust
Yes, I triple checked the marks for the belts.
Can the pulse generator be put in wrong? I couldn’t remember which way the one I had to completely remove was facing (there’s a side that looks like it has a label and a side that’s blank - so I put it the same way that the lower one faced.
If I somehow messed up and switched plug wires two and four would that cause the backfires?
Bike ran fine before (61K on the belts).

Re: Exhaust backfire
I would look at the spark plug wires first if it were me.

Re: Exhaust backfire
The spark plug wires are numbered. 1-3-5 front to back right side and 2-4-6 front to back left side.

Re: Exhaust backfire
For some reason so easy to do... They will fit just nice, don't they...
Done it when I was working on my bike 2 years ago AND I had them marked!
Oh well...
