Removing the trunk?

Post by offcenter »

Does anyone know how to remove the trunk on a '99 1500?
I searched through the forum and found several threads about
removing the saddlebags, but nothing about removing the trunk.
Could have sworn I saw it here long ago when I didn't need it.
(of course)
Thanks gang.

Not that much to it, really.

There's four bolts in the bottom of the trunk, you have to disconnect the cables for the saddlebag latches, and the rest of the removal is disconnecting the various wires going to the trunk. Lights, maybe rear speakers, and antennas. Helps to remove the lid, first. That's four hinge bolts plus the "Stop" cables plus the speaker wires if applicable.

I stripped the rear of my bike down to the sub-frame to repair (weld) the broken front trunk mounts. It looked kinda funny going down the road to the welding shop with no trunk or bags....

No need to remove the speakers, antenna or the lid to remove the trunk......

But you do have to remove the lower trunk panel first before you remove the 4 mounting bolts.
