!990 GL1500 Cruise Not Engaging

Post by kidvid66 »

Hello Everyone,
My 1990 GL1500 will not set. The light comes on but when you try to set it, it will not engage. I am planning to ride it to Florida and want to fix the cruise.

Also, does anyone know the part number of the backrest spacers and the seat bolt size? Please helpp, thanks.

Pleae read through this posting. There are switches and lever bushings that may need attention.

As to backrest bushing, I have not seen any bushings on my passenger backrests. Wait, are you talking about driver seat backrests? It would depend on the manufacturer of your backrest. They do not come stock on the Gold Wing. Keeping that in mind, the bolts for the seat that go through the backrests and bushings are not stock either so they will have to be measured to fit the bakrest you have.

I had the same thing happen to my 89 Wing. Make sure the brake lever is pushed fully forward. There is a brake switch that will disengage the Cruise control, if the lever is no fully extended the switch will prevent the Cruise being set. Give it a try, it might be that simple a fix. Cheers
