Installing Running lite's '97 Aspencade

Post by Golfr »

Have searched GWD "How To" for video to install Running/fog lite's on my '97 "Winging to Jesus" Aspencade to no avail.
How much and what pieces of body need to be removed in order to install?
Thanx in advance

Most aftermarket manufacturers have stopped making parts for the GL1500 so you are limited in availability. You may end up going with a universal type kit mounted to the engine guards or under the nose of the fairing.

I found that Cyclemax still has a kit on hand that mounts into the lower cowl:

https://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500 ... hts/83/321

You will need to remove the lower cowl. The lights mount directly to the cowl which has a pre-made location with "knock-outs" that need to be removed to make holes. The kit has good instructions.

This article is from the How-To button above. It describes how to replace the bulbs on the cowl mounted lights but basically walks thru everything you will do to add the lights except removing the knockouts

BTW. You can buy the kits with LEDS already vice the above article that upgrades to LED. Of course you can also replace headlight bulbs with LED as well as those tiny little position lights next to the headlights.

Thanx Andy for the info. I bought a Show Chrome kit but instructions say nothing about which cowls have to come off. Has been 50 years since I have been around bikes so I am a little hesitant to start sawing and cutting on 24 year old plastic. Thanx again

According to the diagrams, your 97 Aspencade should have already come with the running lights installed. At the very least the knockouts will be there as Andy has pointed out, and the wiring in the harness.

The installation instructions are available from Dennis Kirk for the Show Chrome LED Driving Fog Light Kit - 52-595L lights.
The instructions would be the same for the standard bulb lights.
