Left turn signal only comes on when forks are turned left

Post by Sirkill75 »

1989 gl1500, the left turn signal only works when I turn the forks to the left like half way or more. I dont know if it could be a component or a pulled, smashed wire.

I'd try to get the handlebars positioned where it just about works then (with the ignition switch cover off) gently move the wiring harness at the triple tree.I suspect something in this area has a bad electrical connection.
Possibly the connection that's in the center.I think the turn signal cancel unit is in there.

Check the position switch at the bottom of the self-cancelling unit (located in the steering head). It has a thin metal lever attached to the frame and sometimes gets knocked off the sensor switch.

Which 1500 do you have? Interstate, Aspencade, or SE. The Interstate doesn't have a self cancel unit. I would try checking all the wiring below the handlebars, wiring that moves with handlebars, for connectors, unplug, check pins for corrosion, put dielectric grease in them.

If I don't do Facebook or Twitter, do I still have to do Social Media Distancing???
Those who say it cannot be done should try not to interrupt those who are doing it.
