Passenger pocket doors...

Post by bri720a »

I have seen a number of people looking for "missing" pocket doors recently.

Any recommendations to keep from losing them?

I venture to say that they got gone because of being broken, keeping them lubed and being careful in use would be a good start. If I was worried about loosing them after that then a tether rope or wire would keep them from getting away completely.
Try to learn from the mistakes of others..... you won't live long enough to make them all yourself!

I kept losing the left. Sometimes it would get kicked when swinging my leg over the seat. I finally mounted a thin cable, similar to what I used on my side covers, to keep it so it didn't go flying down the down the road. It seemed the hinges always broke. Since neither side ever got used, I finally ended up gluing both doors and can't use them.

I have a retainer strap that bonds to the door and the inside. I don't recall where it came from, but I suspect it may have been one of Rudy's products?

Yup...just checked, this is one of Rudy's Door Keeper products.

Unfortunately no longer available as Ric (Rudy) passed away, but you could perhaps fashion something yourself in a similar vein...

I made some cables with wire fishing leader for my side panels. I will have to do it for the doors too.

Also just saw that the little metal spring needed to be bent out slightly to better hold the latch. It was not even touching the back side of the latch.
