'94 Insterstate parts bike -- good donor for '89?

Post by Solo So Long »

I have a guy offering a '94 Interstate (56000 miles) at a decent price, but the clutch is shot, it needs other work and has no reverse, so I'm thinking about buying it to use as a donor for my '89.

How much of this is compatible with my '89? The engine? Any differences in the running gear or brake systems? I hear that the reverse can't be added to the Interstate, which is too bad -- is that a transmission issue? No compressor, but is the air shock the same?

I believe they made several changes to the Wings after 1993. I bought an engine from a 97 for my 90 & there were so many differences that I gave up trying to modify things to make it work. I ended up buying another 90 model & took all of the chrome & other accessories & put them on the running bike that I bought. If I were you I would try to find the same model or one in the same "series" to purchase for a donor. I believe anything from 89 to 93 should work.

88 and 89 are somewhat a wing to themselves. Lots of changes after that. Some parts are the same, but since you don't know what you will need, it's a crap shoot.

Thanks, that info tells me that I shouldn't expect much.
