Transmission problem
Today I took my 1995 Gl1500 Aspencade Trike out for a ride which I haven't had reidden much this year. As I turned left off my road onto the highway and shifting through the gears I went into 4th gear and it suddenly clunked and clanked and made all kinds of racket then dropped back into 3rd gear. I tried 4th gear again and as i throttled it dropped to 3rd however I was able to go into 5th gear. I could downshift into 4th and as long as I didn't give it any gas it stayed in gear. Another thing while in neutral if I rev the engine up it makes a lot of rattling, clanking noises. Needless to say I met my friends for breakfast but decided not to take a chance riding any further than to get it back home. I'm ASSuming this is going to require a transmission rebuild. The bike has less than 70,000 miles on it and i've never ridden it hard but who knows how it was ridden before I purchased it. I thought I got a good deal on it, $3600.00 and knew the brakes needed bleeding but seems like everytime I fix 1 thing something else goes wrong. I've replaced the alternator, fuel pump 3 times, all relays, rebuilt forks, paint it, upgraded radio. Hopefully this is the last thing to go wrong. Any thoughts on the transmission issue would be appreciated
Thanks
Joe

Re: Transmission problem
Same thin happened to my 95 at 87,000 or so. Cost my 4.5 K for engine removal and teardown. An upgraded shifting fork came out with the 97 model. Sorry to tell you this. Hope that is not your problem.

Re: Transmission problem
Do you have a standard shifter, or a heel/toe shifter?

Re: Transmission problem
Heel to toe shifter. From what I've read 4th gear was a common problem with the GK1500's

Re: Transmission problem
Not good news. I was going to rebuild the engine of my '95 1500 as a long term project, but have since sold it. I was accumulating parts to do this and have some for sale in USD, buyer pays actual shipping cost in USD converted from CDN shipping cost.

Re: Transmission problem
If I decide to swap the motor out instead of rebuilding will a Valkyrie motor work? If so can reverse be added to it and what other modifications would be needed?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Transmission problem
You might be able to get a Valk motor to fit. Not likely with the Valk carbs, however. It is not really possible to add reverse to a motor without it - technically possible, yes, financially feasible, not really.

Re: Transmission problem
Thanks I've also read that it uses more gas and other modifications need to be done
