Sometimes loses power at highway speeds 65+
I have a 99se trike that I bought in Florida and drove home to Michigan. The bike had set for 5 years so the previous owner took it to a qualified mechanic and had it gone over, including a carburetor rebuild. Everything seemed fine. I put 200 miles on it before I headed home. About 100 miles into my trip the bike lost power. I could maintain 45 to 55 mph but when I gave it gas it would die more. It would never stop running. I could pull the clutch in and rev it up no problem. The only way I could get back up to speed was to pull over and stop for a minute then take off. It might run for 1 mile or 100 miles. I finally got home and started checking things. Put a fuel pump in it off my 98, no change. Checked the coils, pulse generators, accelerator pump, they were all fine. Need some suggestions before I change the ECM. Nice running bike if you're not on the highway.

It sounds like it is starving for fuel. Try bypassing the vacuum petcock and see if that changes anything.

A real simple one: a clogged fuel filter may flow fuel enough in order to drive every day, but under demand of highway speeds, it can't flow enough fuel. Check to see if your fuel filter is in need of changing.

Since this is your first post, welcome.
Ran fine on full tank and then started acing up around a half tank(?). Is this repeatable? Have you tried loosening the gas cap?
Plus 1 on filter. Mechanic may have installed a new one but not cleaned the tank and she plugged up with crud after 100 miles.
Plus 1 on petcock. Average mechanic may not have thoroughly checked it or replaced the rubber parts.

Thanks for the input guys. The petcock has been removed from the bike, I checked the tank when I changed the pump. It was clean. A new filter was installed when the carbs were done. I also cleaned the gas cap and vent hose. Can't work on the bike again till next week but any other pointers would be appreciated. Thanks
