No. power to ignition or fuel pump

Post by statlerj »

I have no power to the spark plugs or fuel pump. I have replaced replaced fuses 8, 9 and 11 just to make sure they were good. They visually appeared ok. Also replaced relays 3 and 6. Also replaced Engine Control Module. All inputs to the module appear to be ok per
the shop manual. any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you are talking about a 1500, your profile shows a 1987 GL1500 SE. There's no '87 1500's.

Have you checked the obvious? The kill switch kills power to all of the above, might've got bumped. Also I understand the wires are fastened to the kill switch with screws, can come loose.

Thanks The Kill switch was one of the first things checked. I know from experience about the kill switch. Years ago I worked on a bike for several hours before noticing the Switch was In wrong position.

Circuit diagram shows fuses 2,8 and 12 involved in the ignition (12 is the one in the relay area). I believe that the bank angle sensor only kills the fuel pump but keep it in the back of your mind.

The engine will now turn over. Still no spark or voltage to fuel pump. I’m now checking grounds to make sure they aren’t corroded. Will check fuse 12.
Thanks for your input. Bike has been down all summer. I’m starting to get very frustrated.

I would recommend testing all of the fuses with a test light as there is a small possibity of a poor connection that a voltmeter would miss and don't forget fuse 2. I have had problems keep my bike off of the road for a while and it is not fun. What really kills you is when you finally find the problem, it is rather small and you are kicking yourself for not finding it sooner. Wish you the best.

Have you removed the kill switch and checked the connectors underneath? My 1500 had a loose screw on the connector and caused the same problem.

I’m having the same issue with a 1993 gl1500 se so I’m betting it’s a somewhat common problem? Did this ever get fixed and figured out?
