Front crankshaft seal leak ???

Post by Len »

We have an small oil leak behind the center pulley that drives the timing belts. Before we remove the pulleys, we need to know how to replace the crankshaft seal. Thanks in advance.

You can use two self drilling screws 180 degrees apart in the face of the seal and it will push out. The worst job is getting the nut loose that holds the pulley. nice to have impact wrench

There are several ways similar to the above suggestion but be careful, they all have a risk of damaging the crank or the case if not done carefully. There are several tools sold for the purpose, some easier to use than others in a certain case, the problem being that the smaller the seal is the harder it is to pull or pry on it without hitting something you don't want to damage. And then we get to putting the new seal back in place without damaging it. It's not at all impossible, it's done every day but it takes a little forethought and care.
Try to learn from the mistakes of others..... you won't live long enough to make them all yourself!
