Shifter Problem

Post by JPochron »

I got the 1997 motor installed in my 1995 Aspencade Trike and it runs great. I had to rewire some things so I didn't have my mechanic assist me in puuting it completely back together, huge mistake. I couldn't get the toe to heel shifter to work properly so I purchased a stock shifter and attempted to install that along with the shifter brace. I've never had an issue installing these before but I cannot get it to shift in all the gears. I made sure the arrow was in the proper position and still not working. If I put it 1 way I can go into 1st gear but not the rest. If I move it another way I can go in all the other gears exceot 1st. It seems as though something is binding, I even removed the shifter brace and no change. This may be a stupid question but i'm at a lost and cannot think of anything that could be the problem. I had to rewire the harness for the LED Gear Indicator and believe I have it wired right however It's not lighting up when I get it into gear. When I installed it on my 95 motor I had no issues but now I'm wondering if I did something wrong. Is it possible that if I made a mistake in the wiring for it to cause it not to shift properly? Seems preposterous but I don't know what else could be causing the issue. I also installed a Bartlett Cluctch and rebuilt the slave cylinder and replaced the clutch master cyclinder. I appreciate any solution and advise. I put a call to my mechanic but he hasn't responded yet

Thanks

Joe

There is a shift drum lock lever and rod under the rear engine cover that must be installed correctly with trans in neutral and checked for proper operation before buttoning up. This device when reverse lever is raised locks the shift drum so one cannot move shifter into a gear while in reverse preventing major trans damage.
You can find relevant info under starter/reverse in shop manual. Could be that.
Nothing leaves my shop till its' perfect
This is what I do

If it is the shifter drum lock lever, what has to be done to correct the problem? Also could something else be causing the issue

Thanks
