Handlebar Grips / Grip Heaters

Post by lordofbasement »

Hello,
i am from austria, 48 years old and recently proud owner of a 94 SE.
My questions are related to the handlebar grips. Mine are beautiful aftermarket grips which are too big in diameter for me.
They measure 41mm (1,614 inch) which is in my opinion too big for average hands :D They are also very long 160mm (6,3 inch)
which diamater have the original rubber ones and which lenght? Does somebody rides original ones?

And second, which grip heaters are recommended. I only want to have some with integrated controller for a cleaner look.
The only ones i have seen are relatively short 120-130mm (4,7-5,1inch).

What are your thougts beside from "Heated gloves are better"

Welcome to the forum.

The grips are fairly easy to replace. While the handlebar diameter is standard, the GL1500 does tend to have longer grips than most other models.

While this company may not be able to ship to you, they do have some good information: https://cyclemax.com/gl1500_grips___pegs

Thank you Andy for your quick reply.
I am not sure if i should swap to original rubber handlebar grips. I really do'nt like the big diameter of my aftermarket ones.
If i want turn to full throttle, it's not easy to get in one movement without reposition my hand on the grip because of the longer travel. Do'nt know how to describe better.

Can anyone with originial grips give me some measurements regarding diameter and length?

Can't give you any input on the grips but just wanted to say, looked up Styria on google earth. Bet there's some great riding around there.
Welcome to the forum, hope you post some pics of your rides!
