This is on my 89 1500. It has the dreaded surging at idle. I have not pulled the top of the carbs off yet. I plan on looking for bad vacuum lines and see what's what.
So I think I have a bad accelerator pump. I'm not getting any fuel out of the tubes. Can you guys confirm the pump is not working correct. And could this cause my surging? Thanks

Bad accelerator pump would not cause surging, just a stumble under load with quick throttle opening.

You might need to open the throttle a bit quicker - but here's a video from our own Virgilmobile that shows what it should look like:

It might be wise to try it without the engine running, you can get a better visualization:

Sometimes if fuel has congealed in the nozzles, they can be opened up by heating the nozzles with a soldering iron then actuating the pump.
That said, as mentioned, lack of an accelerator pump won't cause surging, it will cause stumbling off the line.

And I might add the accelerator pump is temperature compensating providing a full shot below 50 degrees and somewhat less above that temp.

I took the air filter housing off. I did not remove the top plate? of the carbs. I couldn't see any obvious bad vacuum lines. I saw some 90* lines. I've read these could be bad. Are the ones usually talked about visible with out removing the carbs?
I did manually manipulate the accelerator pump and got it working. Not sure if it's 100% though. I did find that the metal tube going from the accelerator pump to the top plate of the carbs is leaking. I'm sure the o-rings are bad. Could that be my surge? Just hoping,,,lol. I'm just dreading pulling these carbs just yet. Maybe over the winter.
I talk about it here. All ready posted this video in another thread.
