used parts

Post by gford »

With the multiple topics regarding failing alternators and fuel pumps I came across what i believe is a bit of a deal today. My bike needed a new front left rotor (only 290,000 Km on it) and the local bike shop was scrapping a 2000 gl 1500 with 50,000 KM on it. I bought the rotor and also the fuel pump and the alternator. All are original Honda parts. Checked websites and original Honda parts are expensive but they last a long time. Paid $300.00 Canadian for the lot.

Good deal.

If you do not have a need for that fuel pump right away, I have heard that the plastic the holds things in place has a tendency to dry out and crack. It may be wise to submerge it in something to prevent it from self destructing. Fuel? Kerosene? Mineral Spirits? I do not have any personal knowledge of what to submerge it in or if there is another way to keep it in good condition.
