Rectifier

Post by GHaZ58C0323 »

My first post so please disregard my ignorance of this site, Ya'll

i had a 93 GL1500I and had problems with the charging system. Replaced ALT and then found a two prong "recitifier" had to be replaced. Once done she began to charge bout 2k RPM 14-15 volts.

Well i have a 92 GL1500SE new to me bout a year ago and she left me on the road the other day. Same symptom as the 93. Only 12 volts after a re-charge at the ALT and it drops when started as it is runnin on the battery i guess.

the OEM parts guide at the dealer shows a rectifier on the harness for 92 as it did for 93 however service can not find a reference to the part neither can i find it after tearing her down...

Part is 31710-371-008...

That part number is located on the front part of the rear fender. However, it isn't part of the charging system. The rectifier and regulator for the alternator is internal. There are a couple of those two pin diodes used for isolation. You can find the complete charging wiring diagram in the manuals section.

Well time has passed and so has my need of a rectifier(i guess) got a new 40 Amp altenator installed and she is giving a solid 14 and change voltage when running. Also replaced the battery for several reasons and she stays a solid 12. and change even after sitting for a week or more.

Now the reason for my post : The Altenator is getting hot after running about 10 minutes. Not as hot as the cylinder head but she is heating up...
