94 Aspencade: Connections on back of alternator

Post by landisr »

Can anyone tell me whether the 2-pin T shaped connector on my Wing has two wires or only one? I removed the alternator to have the brushes replaced. When I went to put it back in and went to plug in the plastic connector, there was only one wire from the harness, and NOTHING in the other side where a female spade should be. I cannot find a dangling or loose wire anywhere in the area. I'm not talking about the one by/on the black plastic box that I presume is the noise suppressor. If there is indeed supposed to be a second wire on "the bottom of the T", where would that wire come from? My oil soaked Clymer manual isn't much help. The guy at the alternator shop told me the bottom of the T should show 12 volts, so I'm guessing that is what feeds the primary, and is necessary. If so, this could explain why the alt wasn't charging. It bench tested ok in their shop with the new brushes.

TIA. Ron

PS. The connector plugs in by my thumb in the picture.

There is only one wire used. The other position of the connector is not used.
