Cranks but won’t start
I have a 1988 Goldwing GL1500 That shut down on me, and won’t start. Thought fuel pump failed but changed it with a new one and still same problem. I’m thinking relay at this point, but not sure which one is the culprit. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Re: Cranks but won’t start
Most of the time this is due to a tired battery going bad. The 1500 needs a fresh fully topped off battery to start. The ECM will not make spark if the voltage is down at all. There are some fixes to help this. You can usually confirm this by seeing if you get anything by pressing the start button for just a second or so then releasing it. Often the bike will start on the release, or at least cough a bit.
Just because the battery spins over the starter fine, doesn't mean if can also fire the plugs while doing so. This is a major design flaw in the 1500.
Otherwise, check for spark and fuel to narrow down your search.

Check the kill switch. I had a problem with the wires loose on the connectors under that switch. I tightened them and no more trouble from that.

A bad Bank Angle Sensor can be the problem as well as bad Pulse Generators.

New battery, new fuel pump. Checked for spark, none, new fuel pump, still not pumping fuel. 14v steady but no start
The kill switch sounds interesting, I’ll surely check the wiring there. Appreciate the suggestion.Charlie1Horse wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 2:36 am Check the kill switch. I had a problem with the wires loose on the connectors under that switch. I tightened them and no more trouble from that.
