Repair Manual on a CD

Post by Mike D 1990 Goldwing »

I bought a repair manual off Ebay several years ago and I now have a Windows 10 operating system and doesn't work. When I try to load it on this system it tells me to contact the place, I got it to have it updated for the newer system. Well as I said I got it off Ebay and the contact information doesn't get me anywhere. The only information a have is
Upstream Development LLC, 9050 Tennyson Drive, Milwaukee, WI, 53217 414-228-8346 (upstreamdev.com) and Honda 1-310-783-3618
I sent a message to Wing Admin, but he has a note saying he doesn't have time to answer every question and said to put my question on the forum. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Not that I don't have the time, but it's far better for information to be public and searchable here on the site, so people can refer to it in the future.

Many of those electronic manuals are built using old Windows application architecture and they won't run on our modern OS's. You might try telling Windows to run it in compatibility mode and see if you get any success that way? Have a look here: https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/set- ... windows-10

Another option would be to spin up a virtual machine to run the old OS. Windows 10 Pro or better includes Hyper-V, or for Windows Home there are other options including open source projects like Virtual Box.

I made an attempt to try what Wing Admin said and it didn't work but I didn't have the information in front of me so I was going by memory and as some will know at a certain age, we get CRS. I do have an old laptop that I got when my sister passed several years ago but it came up with a error message and I can't figure out how to fix it either. I'm not sure if it's worth paying someone because it's running Windows 7 and was slow with that. What I was thinking if I could turn this laptop into just a monitor to run just this manual.
Thank for the suggestions.

Why not turn that old laptop into a Linux machine.
Linux is compatible with a lot of different things.
Put Linux Mint on the old laptop. It might read your
manual fine.

A quick update, I haven't gotten anywhere with this manual. I tried what Scott said but didn't get anything accomplished. Every time I tried a different option it came up with same popup, which makes me think I wasn't doing it correctly. The popup says to contact the supplier to see if they have a 64bit version because the one I have is 16 bit. I think the laptop is probably junk it tries to load the operating system it says there a error and tries to repair the problem but it never works. It has windows 7 so it won't have any support for that system and when it did work it was real slow. When I have the patients I will try the different suggestion again.

as offcenter said. install linux. something like damn small linux or puppy linus or others will run it no matter. and if you insist on running 16 bit windoze mode, you can run virtual machine or wine as rambozo said. maybe take the disc to a computer shop, have them run it and burn it to a new disc that is compatible with whatever the current windows botware happens to be.
