Alternator not working

Post by Rane »

My buddy attempted to change my timing belts but I only had one so he put everything back together. I remember him questioning whether a wire went to a certain place. My bike stopped running after a while and I noticed that the battery was dead so I charged it and made it home. Are there any wires that would have been disconnected accidentally when taking off the cowl or getting to the timing belt? He did the job perfectly before, but maybe he had a bad day. I can't figure out why my alternator would fail shortly after the job.

I don't think there are any alternator wires involved with timing belt change

HIGH probability there's a pinched wire that's grounding.
Had it happen but caught it before the 2nd bolt got inserted.

Well, I'll just take off the covers first and if nothing there I'll take off the alternator and get it tested. It just seems correlated that something was done and then the alternator failed. That gives me hope since I'm not excited about getting a new alternator.

It's easy enough to get the alternator off. Just three bolts.
(don't ask me how I know this)
If you have to buy a new alternator, DO NOT buy one of the
many cheap Chinese ones out there. You'll only be replacing
it again in a very short time.
(don't ask how I know this either)
