1999 Goldwing Aspencade no start issue solved
Well, let me just say, “Check the simple things first.” I finally decided to install the new plugs, air filter, and oil I received about 2 months ago. As always, I went on a test ride to ensure everything was okay. Did I mention the oil was a quart low? I decided to go to Lowe’s to get some garage door lube. Since I had a recent knee replacement I decided to use reverse to back out of the stall. Then on to Walmart to get an adapter for my phone. Stay with me, there’s a point in this. On the way home I pulled into ihop to connect my phone for some music on my way home. When I hit the start button, nothing… The bike won’t start!!! After some roadside inspection I realized the parking lot had a slight downslope that I aimed towards and bam, the bike started. Got the bike home, take off the side covers and right saddle bag. Checked the solenoid, relays and everything else. Then I thought, what had I done recently that I hadn’t done in awhile… use reverse. Apparently, the handle was not fully seated, preventing the switch from fully closing and allowing the starting circuit to function. I said all that to say, “Check the simple things first.”

I did the same thing years ago. used reverse to park the bike , left it in reverse and when i returned, nothing. i wasted 15 minutes trying to figure it out than saw the problem.

I know GoldWings are one of the least stolen bikes due to their sheer heft but I often leave mine in reverse to prevent theft.
If you can't roll it good luck trying to lift it into a truck/trailer.

We have a buddy whose nickname is "KillSwitch". Should be obvious why!
