How do you jack up a GL1500 safely?

Post by FluffyDog6 »

I see these hydraulic jacks at places like Harbor Freight.

Where can I safely jack up a GL1500 without breaking or crushing something expensive?

The mufflers seem too soft, while the folded centerstand seems OK to jack on.

Always best to pick up the frame rails. Some jacks have adjustable pads to do that, others can be fitted with strategic wooden blocks to do the same.

The exhaust pipes are crushable, the engine block is actually very thin aluminum never intended to take the weight of the bike. I have two wooden blocks that I cut that fit right up against the frame of the bike on either side of the engine, and my jack lifts directly on those blocks, so it's lifting the bike by its frame.
