Gas gauge reads full all the time
I have a 1995, 1500 with 30k on her. I had a bulb (the OD light) go out so I pulled the dash out and replaced the bulb. After I replaced the dash, the gas gauge reads full all the time and I know I have only a 1/4 tank of gas in it. I have looked this over till I'm now going nuts! Any ideas of what I did wrong. This thing is just plug and play and not hard to do at all, just takes time. I still have the bike apart in the garage and will try to look it over again after work. Thank you for your help.

Re: Gas gauge reads full all the time
typical 12v fuel gauges will swing toward full as ground signal increases. total ground from the float switch equals needle on gauge pointing to full. so, take your vom or a 12v test light and determine which wire provides ground to the hgauge, then disconnect that wire. you should see needle drop to empty if gauge is ok. then, find where the ground wire is making contact to ground BEFORE it reaches the float switch.
good luck,

The wire that runs from the instrument panel down to the fuel level sender is yellow with a white stripe. It sounds like you have pinched this wire somewhere, shorting it to ground.
