My gl 1500 goldwing aspencade is running about 2750 on the gauge about 65 mph. is that normal? its been a long time since i had a goldwing. i had harleys for the last couple years. i use to have a 82 gl 1100 interstate years ago but i don't remember it running so high. can you tell me if this is normal. best gas mileage is about =31 miles to gal. Anything you can share i would appreciate it. Norman From NC

Re: RPMs
I see 3000 at 70 MPH on the 1500. The '82 1100 would probably run a little under 4000 RPM at 60 MPH, my '80 tachs 4000 at 60 MPH, but '80 gears are lower than '82Nlmman47 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 8:42 am My gl 1500 goldwing aspencade is running about 2750 on the gauge about 65 mph. is that normal? its been a long time since i had a goldwing. i had harleys for the last couple years. i use to have a 82 gl 1100 interstate years ago but i don't remember it running so high.

Re: RPMs
My 92 1500 Interstate runs 3000 rpm at 70 mph according to the speedometer but, my GPS shows my speed to be actually 65 mph. But then, I don't know how far off the tachometer is.

Re: RPMs
you have a 130 rear tire?
If so, then yes, your overall diameter will be off so engine rpms will not be the same as others, unless it is like a 130/100/16 tire.

Re: RPMs
Ok, a 130/90/16 is not too far off from the stock 160/80/16 height (about 3.5% smaller diameter), but speedo will not be affected (that is driven by the front tire size), but RPM's will read different (higher) than others with the correct (larger) tire size.
That said, I am right at 3,000 rpm's @ 70 mph on my GPS (71-72 mph on my speedo) with my Maxxis tire (175R16, about a 175/80/16 size).
