Another reverse topic! Gl1500

Post by Aph1987 »

Hi all

I'm hoping to use some of your expertise, mine has long run out!

I.have a 1992 GL1500, when I pull the reverse lever the 'R' light comes on however reverse does not engage.

Ive gone through the previous posts and the right hand side is all properly adjusted, the fuses are intact and I've replaced the relays with new ones from goldwingdocs.... so I'm all out of ideas. The bike starts fine both before and after and the reverse light goes off when disengaged

If anyone has had the same problem I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks
Andy

By "does not engage" do you mean that the reversing gear is not engaged (i.e. you can still push the bike freely, like it's in neutral), or that the electrical portion is not working?

If I press the reverse button I can hear the starter motor going round but the bike can still free wheel

First thing is to adjust all the cables, and check everything for slop in the system. I seem to remember a pin that can get broken/bent that can cause trouble. The FSM has the procedure for that. I thought there was an article in the how-to section, but I don't see it.

Here is the thread, not in the How To section (but probably should be?)

Did the reverse ever work?

By any chance, have you had the starter out of the bike?

Sadly it's not worked with me, I don't think the starter has ever been out, is that the next job!?
