Final driven flange wear.
I was wondering if anyone has seen this issue during your rear wheel maintenance. I dismantled the rear end to lubricate the final drive unit and drive shaft splines. I decided to inspect the rubber dampers as they have never been replaced on this 96 Aspencade with just short of 90,000 miles. The bolts securing the damper holder to the wheel had apparently been rubbing the back side of the driven flange. Does anyone think that a replacement of the rubber dampers and the aluminum inserts with alleviate this problem?

Yes, I believe it will. After 90,000 miles the aluminum inserts in the rubber dampeners are most likely worn and the rubber is shot as well allowing too much play, there should be none at all.
Cyclemax has rubber parts: https://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500 ... set/147858
They used to have the aluminum inserts as well but may be out of stock.

Thank you Mike. Going to do the Skyway and Blue Ridge with the daughter and son in law late May. This reply kind of lightens my heart just a little. Thanks again.
