1500 fuel issues
Hi all, I'm a bit of a newbie out here and all your knowledge is great! I have one small issue (maybe big?) with my 1999 Aspencade. I put it away for winter (unfortunately did not stabilize the fuel this time) and this spring, no start. will turn over really good but no start. I do notice that when I initially turn my key on (not turn over) that I do not get the initial 2 second fuel push from pump. With fuel line disconnected at filter, I do not get fuel. Strange thing is, when I STOP turning over, there is a wee bit of fuel that suddenly comes out. Anyway I have been going over everyone's posts and have decided to start at the fuel pump itself. I applied power directly from battery to B+ on tank and - nothing. Should I stop right here and take fuel pump out to replace? Thx all in advance! Luke

Re: 1500 fuel issues
If you have applied power directly tot he fuel pump and it does not work then I guess you have gone far enough. Remove the pump and inspect it and then most likely you will be replacing it.
Just remember to not take the top off the fuel tank unless there is less than half a tank of fuel in there. If you need to, siphon some out.

Might as well check for ground at the pump when you jump it, too.

Re: 1500 fuel issues
ok, I am now getting a dribble of fuel out to filter and I am assuming into petcock valve. However when cranking, zero fuel coming out of petcock valve. I do have lots of vacuum going to it. Am I correct to now think that the petcock is the culprit and should rebuild? thx all again, Darrel

Re: 1500 fuel issues
You can route the fuel hose around the vacuum operated petcock essentially taking it out of the fuel stream and then see what flows through the hoses.

Re: 1500 fuel issues
Unplug the hose from the fuel filter and plug in the one leaving the petcock. I had to do that when my petcock developed a fuel leak until I had a chance to install the rebuild kit. I was able to do it on the side of the road via the fuel door without taking anything apart.

Re: 1500 fuel issues
ok thx all for all input to my issue. So I have done what some of you mentioned, I've bypassed the petcock valve and voila! Startup! I would like to take the petcock valve apart but it seems pretty lodged in there, gas cap in the way of two bottom screws. Any tips?!

It's not hard to get out. I'd suggest removing the shelter cover with the radio, it gives you full access to all the fuel lines etc. and makes the removal/reinstallation easy.LukeG wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 3:06 pm ok thx all for all input to my issue.
