Antifreeze

Post by Kratos14 »

Hi folks, wondering if I can get some brand names of a good antifreeze for my Aspencade. Looking to change it myself for the first time.
Thanks
Hal

Personally, I suggest Honda coolant because it is exactly what Honda recommends. Yes, it is expensive by the quart from the powersports dealer but it is considerably more reasonable from the Honda car dealer and it comes in gallon bottles. From the car dealer you will see it is not the same color as the powersports quart liquid but it is the same stuff. It may be about $25 a gallon from the car dealer as opposed to $9 a quart from the powersports dealer.

I'm cheap, I am using the Peak Asian Blue coolant.
Technically the same stuff as Honda, and better choice than generic green coolant.

Id be really interested in what the difference is in antifreeze. Other than being safe with the different metals and gaskets,,,, as far as I see it operates in the same inviroment in any engine,,, not?

Whatever you use make sure it is silicate free or you will be getting a new water pump.

I can see how it would be more economical. For the price of one gallon of 50/50 mix Honda Type 2 coolant, you get a gallon of the Peak concentrated. You can make two gallons of fluid.

Since I am not a chemist, I guess I just trust Honda more than any of the other after market coolant chemicals.
