Alternator wiring
Hello. I'm installing an aftermarket alternator. The instructions state to connect a post to the "+" battery post. All I remember removing from the original alternator is the part 31108-MN5-005. What am I missing here? If I put a wire on here unnecessarily what are the potential consequences? I thank you in advance for the help.

Re: Alternator wiring
Hi Rane, the alternator has 3 connections to the bike:
1) a thick cable with a ring terminal and rubber boot on the alternator end of the cable, which runs from the B+ (12 volt positive output) of the alternator, past the swingarm under the seat, over to the battery positive. This cable carries the 12V+ charge from the alternator to the battery positive post
2) a thin cable with a plastic automotive connector at the alternator end (part 31108-MN5-005 NOS) which provides the exciter current for the regulator/rectifier
3) the ground (which is provided by the alternator case where it bolts into the engine block.
It is impossible to remove the old alternator from the bike without removing 1, 2 and 3.
The part of the instructions you are asking about is basically telling you to make sure you reconnect item 1) (the main cable between the battery positive and the alternator B+).
Hope that helps.

Re: Alternator wiring
Helps alot actually and I appreciate it! I took it off weeks ago, thought about it after posting my inquiry and then remembered. I was too lazy to take pictures so this is what I get!
